A Thought

I have been thinking about Valentine's Day lately since it is tomorrow. Andrew and I have decided that we will not be celebrating due to the fact it is just another day, but this day gets a title compared to most days of the year. I never really cared to celebrate Valentine's Day since there is not a really good purpose for it and it gives a lame excuse (in my opinion) for men and women to celebrate love on this day and this day only. Why can't we be celebrating our love to our spouses and/or significant other at any other time of year? We should be celebrating our love 365 days instead of 1 out of 365 days!?! God has brought our significant other or spouse into our life and He is the one who has shown us the greatest love of all. He has shown us how to love at all times. Valentine's Day is big hype in the secular world that it is a time to romance your significant other or spouse and then you will be getting "some" that night. Valentine's Day is a very popular day for engagements, for jewelry, for roses, for candy, to give gifts to each other. Why can't we be giving each other gifts or show our love at other times of the year for "just because." Just because...I am thinking of you, I love you, I just wanted to see you smile, I know you have had a hard day/week/month, I just wanted to make you feel special, etc. For me, I am not really into oh Andrew has to get me things to be happy (yes, it is nice to get surprises), but the most important thing is to see Andrew seek after the Lord with all that He has and wants to seek after God in our marriage and let God lead him and in turn lead our marriage. That would provide me love and show me everything compared to Valentine's Day that last a single day of the year.

To get a better commentary read this: found this after I wrote this.

I totally agree - poor St Valentine would be so sad to know how people celebrate his day. He was martyred for Christ and we celebrate by "getting some" as you put it :) We should properly honor his memory by following in his footsteps and sacrificing ourselves to show Christ's love to people.
